چکیده

A comparison in the context of sparse matrices is made between the Product Form of the Inverse PFI (a form of Gauss-Jordan elimination) and the Elimination Form of the Inverse EFI (a form of Gaussian elimination). The precise relation of the elements of these two forms of the inverse is given in terms of the nontrivial elements of the three matrices L, U, U~l associated with the triangular factorization of the coefficient matrix A; i.e., A = LU, where L is lower triangular and U is unit upper triangular. It is shown that the zerononzero structure of the PFI always has more nonzeros than the EFI. It is proved that Gaussian elimination is a minimal algorithm with respect to preserving sparseness if the diagonal elements of the matrix A are nonzero. However, Gaussian elimination is not necessarily minimal if A has some zero diagonal elements. The same statements hold for the PFI as well. A probabilistic study of fill-in and computing times for the PFI and EFI sparse matrix algorithms is presented. This study suggests quantitatively how rapidly sparse matrices fill up for increasing densities, and emphasizes the necessity for reordering to minimize fill-in.

Optimization of a Statically Partitioned Hypermatrix Sparse Cholesky Factorization

The sparse Cholesky factorization of some large matrices can require a two dimensional partitioning of the matrix. The sparse hypermatrix storage scheme produces a recursive 2D partitioning of a sparse matrix. The subblocks are stored as dense matrices so BLAS3 routines can be used. However, since we are dealing with sparse matrices some zeros may be stored in those dense blocks. The overhead i...

Face Recognition using an Affine Sparse Coding approach

Sparse coding is an unsupervised method which learns a set of over-complete bases to represent data such as image and video. Sparse coding has increasing attraction for image classification applications in recent years. But in the cases where we have some similar images from different classes, such as face recognition applications, different images may be classified into the same class, and hen...

Regular low-density parity-check codes from oval designs

This paper presents a construction of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes based on the incidence matrices of oval designs. The new LDPC codes have regular parity-check matrices and Tanner graphs free of 4-cycles. Like the finite geometry codes, the codes from oval designs have parity-check matrices with a large proportion of linearly dependent rows and can achieve significantly better minimum...

Some results on the polynomial numerical hulls of matrices

In this note we characterize polynomial numerical hulls of matrices $A in M_n$ such that$A^2$ is Hermitian. Also, we consider normal matrices $A in M_n$ whose $k^{th}$ power are semidefinite. For such matriceswe show that $V^k(A)=sigma(A)$.

A New Method for Speech Enhancement Based on Incoherent Model Learning in Wavelet Transform Domain

Quality of speech signal significantly reduces in the presence of environmental noise signals and leads to the imperfect performance of hearing aid devices, automatic speech recognition systems, and mobile phones. In this paper, the single channel speech enhancement of the corrupted signals by the additive noise signals is considered. A dictionary-based algorithm is proposed to train the speech...
